Habitica vs Notion

Two tools coaches often weigh against each other, compared on the same terms.

Habitica

FreemiumSoftware

A habit tracker built as a role-playing game — daily tasks earn experience and gold, missed ones cost health. Works for clients who bounce off plain checklists.

Notion

FreemiumSoftware

A flexible docs-and-databases tool coaches use to build client dashboards, goal planners and session notes without paying for a purpose-built platform.

What it is

Habitica

An open-source habit tracker wrapped in a pixel-art RPG. Clients set dailies and to-dos, and completing them levels up a character. Parties let a group of people hold each other accountable.

Notion

A blank canvas that can be a document, a database, or both. Coaches use it to give each client a shared page: goals at the top, session notes below, a habit table they tick off during the week.

Best for

Habitica

The client who has abandoned four habit apps because none of them gave them a reason to open the app on day nine.

Notion

Coaches who want their system to fit their method rather than the other way round, and who are happy to spend a weekend building it.

Watch out for

Habitica

The game layer is the whole point and also the whole risk: some clients find it motivating, others find it childish. Offer it, do not prescribe it.

Notion

Flexibility is the cost as well as the feature — Notion will happily let you build something only you can maintain. Sharing pages with external guests hits plan limits faster than you would think.

Editorial comparison — nothing here is paid placement. Pricing changes often; treat the vendor’s own page as the truth. How we review
